Herbalism is a practice of remembrance - of the land, the people, and the rituals that came before us. We offer this space to recognize the traditional uses of our ingredients and the cultures who first carried their wisdom.
Sunflower oil was first cultivated by Indigenous tribes across North America, who pressed the seeds for food, body care, and ceremonial use - a symbol of light and sustenance. Jojoba oil was traditionally used by the O'odham and other desert peoples for moisturizing the skin and healing wounds. Calendula, with its golden-orange blooms, was cherished in medieval European herb gardens for treating skin irritations and cuts, and in South Asia as a sacred flower used in temple offerings and healing salves. Mugwort, known in Chinese medicine for its warming and protective energy, was used in moxibustion, and also in European and Indigenous American traditions to invoke dreams and support women’s reproductive health. Grapeseed oil reflects the legacy of Mediterranean winemaking cultures who used grape remnants to soothe and soften the skin. Ginger and vanilla, both plants of ritual and medicine, have been used across Asia, Mesoamerica, and the Pacific for their warming, protective, and sensual qualities.
